How Much Does a Personal Trainer Course Cost in the UK?
Prices for the same combined Level 2 and Level 3 qualification can range enormously between providers. Here's what actually drives that difference, and what to check before you pay for one.

The range
Why the same qualification can cost so differently.
A combined Level 2 and Level 3 personal training qualification can be found at very different price points depending on delivery format. For local figures, see our Level 3 course prices in Edinburgh. Fully online, self-study bundles sit at the lower end because there's no tutor time, venue hire or practical assessment involved. Blended and fully in-person courses — with real supervised gym-floor hours, smaller cohorts and hands-on assessment — sit higher, because those things genuinely cost more to deliver properly.
Neither format is automatically "better" on price alone. The question worth asking is what you're actually being trained to do, and whether the price reflects real practical learning or just course materials and a certificate.
What drives the price
What actually pushes the cost up or down.
- Supervised practical hours. Real tutor-led gym practice costs more to deliver than pre-recorded video content.
- Cohort size. Small groups mean more individual tutor attention, which costs more per student to run.
- Venue and equipment. A dedicated practical venue is a real, ongoing cost that online-only providers don't carry.
- What's bundled in. Exam fees, course materials, business/career support and portal access can be included in the headline price or charged separately later.
- Payment flexibility. Interest-free instalment plans don't change the total cost but affect how it feels to pay.
What to check
Questions worth asking before you pay.
Before enrolling anywhere, ask directly: is the exam/assessment fee included in the advertised price, or extra? Are materials and any online portal access included, or a separate charge? Is there a time limit on completing the course, and what happens if you need longer? An honestly "all-inclusive" fee should mean no surprise costs between enrolling and qualifying.

Frequently asked questions
Why do personal trainer courses vary so much in price?
The biggest factor is how much supervised, in-person practical training is included. Online-only courses cost less because they don't involve tutor time, venue hire or small cohort sizes. Blended and in-person courses cost more because they do.
What should be included in the price?
Check whether the advertised price includes exam and assessment fees, course materials, and any ongoing portal or resource access, or whether these are charged separately later. An all-inclusive fee should mean no unexpected costs between enrolling and qualifying.
Are payment plans normal?
Yes, many UK course providers offer interest-free instalment plans, splitting the total cost over a few monthly payments rather than requiring the full fee upfront.
